This experience occurs through the lens of business and cultural activities of each location. First, the influences of economic development and global business are examined. That is, we observed how business is conducted in three differently developed Pacific Rim economies ranging from one with modern facilities to emerging and hyper economies and cultures. A case study relating to international business was incorporated throughout the course. An equal course focus is daily interaction with Asian and Australian people that allows participants to compare their experiences with U.S. culture. We gained valuable cultural and business knowledge through readings and orientations that are held prior to departure, focused observations, field trips, lectures, and directed self-learning. A major component of the course is student interaction with global and foreign businesses leaders and understanding how the differences in culture and politics influence business. One was that we went to the Creative Center for Leadership in Singapore. This was an amazing opportunity where we were able to have a seminar on executive positions all over the world and how there leadership styles are different. This was very helpful for me especially since I may have to work with CEOs of companies in a different country then the United States when I get into my profession. I also developed my leadership skills when I was put in a group to present a marketing plan for Leewuin Wine Estate. While in this group I learned how to not only be a leader during some situations but I also was able to become a follower which is very important for leaders to learn. You can’t always be the leader in the group so therefore you must learn how to be an effective follower. Therefore not only was I a great leader when it came to my expertise in the group but I also was able to step back and be a great follower when someone else in the group knew how to do it better.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3617877077549101590-5801612077860178095?l=businesswintertermtrip.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Why I would or would not recommend this trip?

I would definitely recommend that people should go on this winter term trip. The reason why is because you get to visit three different countries in a matter of a month. Also, a lot of people may never see these countries so it’s such a great opportunity. I also recommend it for businesses students because you really get to network with people in leading companies all over the Pacific Rim. The only reason why I wouldn’t recommend this trip is if you don’t like flying. You do fly a lot, I calculated over 7 plane rides. However, all and all it’s an amazing opportunity. Plus you also get some free time where you can mingle with natives of the land and really learn about there culture and what they think about Americans.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3617877077549101590-5483096377760614100?l=businesswintertermtrip.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

What I gained most from traveling?

I have gained a lot of different things from being on the winter term program, Conducting Business in the Pacific Rim. First and foremost I have learned a lot about myself while traveling from Hong Kong to Singapore and then Australia. I have learned that patience is defiantly a virtue. Of course this is what you hear all the time but I really realized how important it is when you are in another country waiting on people. It’s really a big deal. Another thing I have figured out about myself is what truly makes me happy. I have been able to be away from everything I’m use to and realize what I really need to enjoy my life. I have been able to come back and know what to concentrate on rather then focusing on the things that are negative. The most important thing that I feel like I have gained while traveling in the Pacific Rim are the great connections with business leaders in all three countries; these countries are becoming very important in the business world. It was definitely a great winter term program for business students who want to be on the front line of our generation and globalization. I really have learned a lot about these countries and have a whole new perspective of how the United States and other countries interact with one another.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/3617877077549101590-923368260598817489?l=businesswintertermtrip.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
